On June 9, 2015, the Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) held its third annual Hill Day, continuing with our aim of educating congressional representatives about the benefits of commercially hosted payloads. Nineteen HPA member volunteers descended on the Capitol and held meetings with staff in 37 offices in both the House and Senate.

The Hosted Payload Alliance will again be descending on Capitol Hill to fulfill our mission of increasing awareness and promoting the benefits of hosted government payloads on commercial satellites. This year’s HPA Hill Day will take place on June 9, and we are busy scheduling appointments for our members to meet with representatives of the House and Senate. To ensure the event is even more successful than last year, we need as many members to participate as possible.

The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) commends the U.S. Air Force for taking a critical step towards realizing the benefits commercial space companies can offer in hosting government payloads. On July 10, fourteen commercial satellite operators and space hardware manufacturers were awarded contracts through the Hosted Payload Solutions (HoPS) program.
The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) held an outreach event on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, June 24 to help familiarize members of congress and their staffers with the benefits of hosting government payloads on commercial satellites. Despite anxiety regarding the effect on attendance because of the recent government sequestration, the HPA proceeded as planned with its Key Issues Workshop on April 8 at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs during the National Space Symposium (NSS), and the result was a better-than-expected turnout. The Workshop facilitated open interaction between government and industry, tackling key issues that are potential obstacles for more widespread use of hosted payloads. In addition, the HPA presented a one-hour panel discussion on April 10, which also saw strong attendance.
The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) will proceed with planned activities held in conjunction with next month’s National Space Symposium (NSS) in Colorado Springs, despite the reductions in funded travel for U.S. Government employees and contractors. HPA is the nonprofit satellite industry association established to serve as a bridge between government and private industry, fostering open communication between potential users and providers of hosted payload capabilities.
The Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) today announced that it has completed a position paper providing recommendations for changes to the U.S. Space Transportation Policy, which is currently under review. HPA, a trade association composed of 14 leading space-industry companies, recommended adjusting the foreign launch exemption process to facilitate solutions for launching U.S. Government payloads hosted on commercial satellites that are likely to be launched overseas. This position paper marks the inaugural policy recommendation from HPA.
