HPA Presents HP Forum at Satellite 2012

On March 12, Hosted Payload Alliance (HPA) presented the inaugural Hosted Payload Forum at Satellite 2012 in Washington DC. The HP Forum, consisting of five diverse panel sessions, proved to be the most dynamic HPA industry event to date.

The HP Forum explored a broad range of critical and exciting issues such as CHIRP, non-traditional acquisition initiatives and joint capability procurement methods. The panels featured both domestic and international expert speakers. These speakers, such as CAPT. Jack Nicholson (Ret) of the DoD’s Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), Major General Tim McOwan, Head of Australian Defence Staff, and Patricia Gamble, Deputy for International Affairs in the office of the US Assistance Secretary of Defense, offered their insights on the benefits of hosted government payloads on commercial satellites. These panels took place throughout the day with a highly engaged audience—a signal to the industry that hosted payloads are emerging as a sound alternative.

The panels were chaired by HPA original Steering Committee members and current Board members, Donald Thoma of Iridium, Robert Cleave of Lockheed Martin, David Anhalt of Space Systems/Loral, Rich Pang of SES Government Solutions, and Don Brown of IntelSat. HPA looks forward to its upcoming industry event, the panel session “Hitching a Ride – All about Hosted Payloads”, taking place at the National Space Symposium on April 18 in Colorado Springs, CO.

HPA is an independent, not-for-profit satellite industry association formed to increase awareness and promote the benefits of hosted government payloads on commercial satellites. HPA focuses on education, awareness and developing solutions to common challenges.
